For the longest time I’d heard about the Vapor Cafe and Lounge in Morningside, Durban but hadn’t visited to try their food.
Now our immediate family is huge, like 26 people huge!! 8 siblings plus better halves and grand kids, my parents are rock stars for being able to put up with us and for willingly spending time with us 😉
Luckily with a reservation made, the folks at the cafe were able to seat us very comfortably and a lovely evening was had with our hats going off to the waitress who served us so well and with such a lovely smile and helpful manner.
Now Vapor Cafe isn’t a regular venue, the theme revolves around old school gangsters and the venue is made up of The Gulley and The Underground. They serve meals as well as quick takeaways and also feature a Fro Yo section and hookah lounge.
We began with a salad, which by salad standards I figured would be average, but when tasted was surprisingly good.
Along with salad we ordered a starter of cheesy garlic rolls, again not bad.
And as mains, The Godfather Prawns as well as a mixed grill whose name escapes me.
Trust me when I say that the prawns which we had was the best I’ve ever tasted!
Big in size, sweet and juicy, easily peeled of the shell and grilled to perfection in an amazing mix of flavour, I drool just thinking about it! The Godfather Prawns are served on a bed of rice along with spicy chips and centered around a bowl of delicious sauce- the peri peri was for me just too amazing.
Usually I’m not one for the mixed grills, but my oh my, the chicken fillet which I tried from it was errmazing as were the seekh kebabs.
So, what was the verdict ..? Let’s just say it was so good that the next night we were back there for supper.. But this time with my in laws 🙂 and this time we even had dessert, my favorite being ( I think it was called ) The Gold Corps choice- a pyramid shaped coffee ice cream served with baklava.
