On Friday the 6th February 2015 Musgrave Centre in Durban hosted the first of their monthly rooftop night markets for 2015. Situated on the 5th floor in the parking lot, I was excited to have taken a stall for my first proper market experience.
On sale, I had dec.a.dent my recipe book, the last batch of the retro styled aprons launched last year which will hopefully make way for a new and more stylish range as well as a homemade granola mix which I make and which has received amazing compliments from those who have tasted it.
Made up of linseed, oats, raisins, goji berries, cranberries and a few other wholesome healthy ingredients, this granola seemed to catch the attention of all.
It was quite strange, people would stop and look at it in bewilderment… I’d offer a taste… they’d grudgingly try it- as 1 guy said to me ‘it’s sounds like medicine’ … then as the flavour explosion happened in their mouths, a look of pure surprise and enjoyment and then.. ‘Wow this is amazingly good!’ before happily making a purchase to take home!
The market has a nice vibe, with a good variety of stalls. Falafel Fundi was there as was a stall called Odehs Shwarmas who made thee most errmazing halal beef and chicken Shwarmas. The Shwarmas are made by a team of brothers who hail from Jordan, with chicken or beef sliced of the shwarma grill it is then placed into a pita, which has some salad and an absolutely delicious sauce thrown over.. What might have been bland is crazy delicious with that secret sauce of theirs.
All in all a pleasant but somewhat tiring evening, I will be sure to let you know should I be taking a stall again 🙂
The Rooftop Night Market takes place on the 5th floor from 5pm till 9.30pm.
