Mini Doughnuts

For the longest time, my neighbor and fellow taste tester ( whenever we make a dish or bake, we send it over to each other to taste test and enjoy ) Bilqis has been sending over the yummiest doughnuts. So much so, that I stopped making the easy fried dinky doughnuts ( recipe in dec.a.dent ) which is a staple, especially during the colder months, in my home. So the other night she sent over a batch, before anybody could grab, as they alway do and gobble 2 at a time, I said to them, that from now on we will be sharing it out equally *grin* well, that didn’t go down to well with the kids- since they usually gobble a few as it arrives all hot and crisp and hubby and I end up only dreaming about it with our coffee later on.

That got me thinking- why didn’t I just buy my own doughnut maker?! I’d seen the results thanks to the many yummy plates Bilqis graciously sends over, I’d heard how she spoke about the ease of using the machine as well as the speed of making up a batch.

So it was getting to the point of me contemplating about begging to borrow Bilqis’s and with her big heart, I knew she would never hesitate and we’d end up taking advantage over and over again *sigh* So today, while at Clicks ( they seem to be the only stockists ) my smallie and I bought one on the understanding that we would take it home, decide if we realllllly wanted it and if we didn’t we’d return it. No problem!

Got home and well it beckoned and called to be tried *grin*

All it took was 5 minutes and I had the batter ready ( the recipe is in the manual ) 5 more minutes and the machine was hot.

Another 5 minutes and we had our 1st batch of seven.

Quick, easy, very compact and a definite winner in my home. Priced at R159 it’s not bad- makes between 24 to 30 doughnuts. Now smallie has no reason to cry for those soggy overpriced dinky doughnuts each time we visit the beach 😉

  1. Hi Lizna, here’s the recipe which I used.

    1 1/2 cups flour
    1/2 cup Castor sugar
    1 1/2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    125 g softened butter
    1 egg
    3/4 cup milk

Place all in a dish, beat till combined and thick. Place a spoonful into pre heated machine, cook for about 4-6 minutes.

Hope your friend gets to finally enjoy your sweet gift 🙂
